Legendary: Fannie Lou Hamer

Fannie Lou Hamer used her "voice" and stood up when it was unpopular and with much to lose. Standing up cost her separation from her family; forced to leave the plantation where she was working because she would not withdraw her voting application. She was beaten by police and other male inmates. Damage to her eyes, legs and kidneys affected her to the end of her life. She fought and stood justice and equality. Leaving behind an incredible civil rights legacy-voters and women's right champion. Leaving us with better choice because she raised her voice.
